15 September 2012 - Los Pollitos Bay Ridge

On Saturday evening, after taking me early birthday shopping and showering me with affection (*sigh* I am so lucky), The CEO announced that he had one great unmet need.

You see, I didn't blog about the failure of making nachos for him last weekend and failing miserably when I realized AFTER cooking it that the sausage I used was waaaaaaaay off.  So I had to feed him chips and cheese dip.  He didn't complain but still.

So The CEO still wanted nachos.  I guess I could have offered to cook but I was about 4 cocktails into the day and so I offered to google "Best Nachos in Brooklyn" and see where that took us.  Interestingly, it took us 4 blocks from home.

Yelpers SWORE that Los Pollitos in good old Bay Ridge had awesomesauce nachos.  And who are The CEO and I to argue with neighborhood loyalty?

So off we went.

We started with margaritas because well, I wanted a margarita.

Then, for the nachos.  We decided on steak.  We would have asked for sour cream on the side but didn't want to mess with the recipe of the best nachos in Brooklyn.  Here they are:

It is really dark in Los Pollitos so I apologize that the pictures aren't great
They are uniquely layered in that the black beans are on the bottom, at plate level, then the chips, covered in cheese, then the steak, and then guacamole, salsa, lettuce and sour cream.  You know what, these ARE really good.  I won't say that they are the best I've ever had (that honor still falls to El Sombrero in Statesboro, GA...no joke) but they are quite good.  Next time we have them, I think we may ask for extra cheese and sour cream on the side.  Just to make them super epic.

For dinner, The CEO had a chimichanga...shown below:

Which Chorizo, naturally
And I had shrimp fajitas:

The fixins
The CEO seemed to like his meal just fine.  Mine tasted really good but I must confess I was a little sad that they didn't come to me sizzling.  I'm a baby that way.  Also, Loss Pollitos doesn't serve their fajitas with cheese, so I had to ask for some.  Is this common?

All up, not bad...

We finished up the meal with these:

Look into their eyes
They are called Platanos Burrachos...or drunk platains.  Basically, they soak plantains in tequila and sugar and light those bad boys on fire.  They were still flaming upon arrival.  We blew them out and ate them.  Well, as many as we could.

All up, this place ain't bad for being a few blocks away.  I would go back.  And the nachos were good.

NoM!

Next up: a public service announcement
