EK Knits

Recently, I have discovered my love of knitting.  I took it up when I first moved to NY in 2005.  In fact, my awesome friend Erica learned with me.  She is now an amazing knitter and I am...ok...because I took way too much time off.

But The CEO supports my knitting habit.  Not only does he let me knit, but he buys me yarn, patterns, and 3 months of Knit Crate for Valentine's Day!  Long story short is that I have probably made about 10 new projects in the past few months and the fever does not seem to be diminishing.  I once saw a button that said "I knit so I don't kill people" and I often feel that truer words have never found themselves on a button.

So, without further ado...here are a few of my recent projects!  I didn't photograph them all but I should probably start.

First up, I made a blue eyelash scarf for my mom using some fun yarn we found in Michigan.  You can't really see much of it here, but Teddy and Simon are cute!

Then, I made a scarf for The CEO's sister's birthday.  Seeing it as a sample at a lovely Local Yarn Store in Alpena, The CEO said it was perfect for his sister.  I hope she liked it because it was a super fun knit and the yarn felt so nice.

Feeling empowered, I set out to make my first project on double pointed needles, I wanted to make a sock but was a little afraid so I made a yoga sock, with no heels and toes.  Here is one being modeled by The CEO.  It turns out that the cast off and cast on for the missing heel is more complicated than turning a heel.  Who knew?

After that, I needed a little break for challenging, so i made a Sashay scarf using this new fangled yarn everyone is raving about.  It was fun.  Simon was kind enough to model it for me.

Then, I moved onto this amazing kit that The CEO bought me months ago and I was too afraid to try.  Fingerless gloves in cashmere.  They are called Audrey gloves and I wear them everywhere.  The yarn is jade sapphire mongolian cashmere.  It ain't cheap but it is amazing.  Just incredible.

Finally, I moved on to my biggest challenge yet: big girl socks.  These have heels and toes and everything.  They are for The CEO and when I finished off the first one, I just knew they were going to be too big:

Not so!  They fit like a glove (or a sock, be that as it may).  The second sock is still on my needles but done soon.  These were not nearly as tough as I would have thought.

Not pictured is the scarf I made on HUGE needles out of chunky yarn and then wore every single day; the runner's watch cap I made of Koigu KPPPM, which is epic, another eyelash yarn project I made for my mom and the piles of super fun yarns I have stashed.

Next after the socks, I am going to make a hot water bottle coverage out of this gorgeous Aran.  The pattern calls for cabling so I have an appointment for a lesson tonight at La Casita Yarn Shop!

Wish me luck.  Until next time:

NoM!

  1. Holy cow, girl, you are an awesome knitter! I have been wanting to learn for the longest time. Those fingerless gloves and the CEO's socks are impressive!

  2. Thanks Haley, as nice as some of my stuff turns out, I am always looking at the work of others and thinking "I must get better!" The fingerless gloves were easy easy easy. To be honest, Erica and I taught ourselves with a beginner's knit kit from Target and a copy of Knitting for Dummies, the latter of which I still have and consult often. It is turning yellow and the spine is breaking but it has my notes in it! If you decide to learn, I am available as a resource any time!
