The CEO and I did it again. We were out until 4am on Saturday and then we slept. Too late. But we needed it.
I was obsessed with the idea of making it to both Stinky Brooklyn and Four & Twenty Blackbirds this weekend and we did. But we were pretty darned hungry by the time we dropped off the instruments at the studio and traipsed our way to Carroll Gardens from Gowanus (if you aren't from Brooklyn just insert Charlie Brown grown up speak in there....wa wa waaaa...). The CEO wanted "meat and cheese" and lo and behold, there was a Cuban place across the way.
Let me preface this by saying that being a foodie is tough. The CEO and I are hyper critical of food, my own cooking included. And yelp gives this place tons of awesome feedback. So maybe I was in a bad mood. But we went to Cubana Cafe and it was ok.
The cocktails, if which I don't have pictures were the best part. The CEO had a Cuba Libre with Diet Coke (because he has awesome self control) and I had a piña colada (because I don't). These were fantastic. Just nummy. I could go for one right now.
They also started us off with fried plantain chips. Also quite good...although not as good as Bogota....
And we got the empanada of the day, which was beef. Also very tasty. No frills, nothing fancy, just flavored ground beef in an empanada. I ate a whole half of one, which is unusual for me.
It also came with a chickpea salad, which I wouldn't taste as I could tell it had mayo in it, but the CEO really liked.
Then, came our food. I ordered arroz con pollo...in this case, it literally meant chicken with rice. It wasn't what I was expecting but it wasn't bad and the beans were awesome. But I do love beans in general.
The CEO had the Cuban...which looked pretty yummy. It had avocado literally oozing out of it. See?
But the CEO said that the cheese and avocado overpowered the meat, which wasn't ok. Bummer.
So, all up...drinks and empanadas at this place are where its at.
Next up...PIE day part 2...Four and Twenty Blackbirds
